SPONSOR: JACKALOPE BREWING CO

Jackalope Brewing entered the Nashville scene in 2011, founded by Bailey Spaulding and Robyn Virball.  We have proudly partnered with them over the years to ensure our attendees the pleasure of tasty brews while shopping.

1. What Nashvillian inspires you the most?  Jeanie Nelson, who founded the Land Trust for Tennessee has been a personal inspiration to me.  I did a fellowship at the Land Trust back when I graduated from law school.  She is very eloquent but fierce, and has done so much to preserve the beauty of Tennessee.

 2. What is your favorite thing to do in Nashville?  I love going to see live music, but so does everyone, right?  I think I'm happiest when I'm drinking beer outside with my husband Luke and dog Ricky (Ricky doesn't drink, but he's excellent at sitting on patios).

 3.  What is your favorite holiday tradition/memory?  My mom makes the most amazing Christmas breakfast every year.  It's like a french toast souffle, and we eat it in our flannels.

 4. What has surprised you the most about owning/running a business in Nashville?  I don't know if this counts as a surprise, but something that I didn't expect that I'm very thankful for is the connection I have with other entrepreneurs in town.  You really feel like you're a part of something as a member of the Nashville business community.

 5. Last, but not least- what is your favorite holiday movie?  National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.  Jackalope shows it every December at the Belcourt Theatre and it gets better every time!

NEW SPONSOR: SKILLPOP

Skillpop believes that the best learning happens in-person, and they strive to create environments where trying a new skill is social, accessible, and engaging. They will soon be here on Nashville, expanding our community. Hear from their team and join us in welcoming them to this great city.

1. What Nashvillian inspires you the most? I'm a big fan of everything that Branden Harvey is doing with the Goodnewspaper, a quarterly publication sharing stories of things that are changing the world for the better.

2. What is your favorite thing to do in Nashville? Hiking! There are so many beautiful places right outside the city like Percy Warner Park and Beaman Park. A good brunch in Nashville (Marche is my favorite) is hard to beat as well.

3.  What is your favorite holiday tradition/memory?  I've loved watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade ever since I was little!

4. What has surprised you the most about owning/running a business in Nashville? It's been amazing to see how tight-knit the community is in Nashville

5. Last, but not least- what is your favorite holiday movie? Elf!

Warm Up with Firepot Chai!

Firepot Chai is back this Holiday Market!

While working as a cook at the Tibetan Trader and Teahouse in Bozeman, Montana in 2001, founder, Sarah Scarborough made the first batch of Firepot Chai.

With a background in organic farming, a love for travel and global cultures and an overactive sense of smell, she fell into the world of tea. Since then, she has started a number of tea companies in New Zealand and Nashville and worked as a tea buyer and tea consultant for companies like The Republic of Tea.

fter her oldest son was born in 2012, she brought Firepot back to life, adding organic matcha, iced tea and loose leaf teas to the original chai collection.

She continues to travel regularly to the origins of tea to procure some of the world’s most pure and unique teas for Firepot.

We cannot wait to see what goodies Firepot features at #PFHoliday17!

NEW SPONSOR: WITHCO

New to the Porter Flea Scene, we are glad to introduce you all to WithCo. WithCo is a fresh ingredient cocktail mixer. No preservatives, no-nonsense. Get to know co-owner Bradley Ryan as we welcome them to the Flea!

1. What Nashvillian inspires you the most? I am constantly inspired by Ashtin Paige.  She is an extremely hard worker, talented photographer, art studio owner, mother, and wife all at once.  She excels at all of those things.  All the while she is a great friend, and I feel lucky to know her.

2. What is your favorite thing to do in Nashville?  Honestly, taking my dog to the park every morning, when it's really early, and just enjoying the crisp, quiet morning is my favorite part of the day. I love Nashville mornings, before the hustle of the day starts.

3.  What is your favorite holiday tradition/memory?  My wife and I do a puzzle for every holiday, we just lay around, watch holiday movies, and do a puzzle.  I'm just practicing for being an old man, getting pretty good too.

4. What has surprised you the most about owning/running a business in Nashville? I was inspired by just how helpful and kind everyone is in this city.  Instead of viewing other business as competition, almost everyone we have met has asked "how can I help?"  That's the type of person I aspire to be.  I may not be good at everything or able to give a ton of money, but I'll show up and be helpful. That's why this city is where I want to call home.

5. Last, but not least- what is your favorite holiday movie?  White Christmas. Always. It gives me all the feels.

NEW SPONSOR: SCOUTS BARBERSHOP

Scout’s Barbershop’s mission is to provide a space where people come together – not only to get their hair done, but to hang out and meet their neighbors. While you’re there, you might even Scout out a new style or make a new acquaintance that brings inspiration to your craft, your music or other creative interest!

Find a fresh Porter Flea style when you visit Scouts Braid + Beard Bar. Choose the perfect winter braid or let us help you groom your cold weather beard.

Let’s get to know the owner, Brooke Allison & Keila Trevino!

What Nashvillian inspires you the most? Luke Dick is one of my favorite Nashvillians … his creativity and talent are at that level where my mind is just blown – from his song-writing to his autobiographical film-producing of his crazy-interesting life story to his own music – Republican Hair. It’s all just awesome. He was a philosophy professor in his past career, and is married to a brilliant neurosurgeon with whom he’s raising two babies and a truly lovely teenage daughter. He manages all of this and is still one of the friendliest, most sincere people I’ve ever met!

What is your favorite thing to do in Nashville? Impossible to choose just one, so I’ll describe one day – run at Shelby Bottoms Greenway with friends, eat breakfast at The Post, walk to 5 Points and scope some local shops, day drink at Dino’s and eat fries, end up on someone’s porch or backyard for a fire and music and more food and drinks!

What is your favorite holiday tradition/memory? Walking around the little town of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, situated right on a huge northwest lake with evergreens and snow and frozen ice. The town is an old silver mining town with brick buildings now filled with coffee shops, thrift shops and outdoorsy gear shops.

What has surprised you the most about owning/running a business in Nashville?  Hmmm…. I guess I could say how quickly things have grown and changed here but I also kind of expected that and was motivated to open a business because of that reason. Even so, it still astounds me, just about every day, the amount of growth I’ve seen and been through over the last 5 years.

What is your favorite holiday movie? Meet Me in St. Louis

SPONSOR: STOREFRONT STUDIOS

Storefront Studios offers professional photography for your products. Amy Hobbs, owner, ensures a seamless process by working with clients step by step to handle all details, from product delivery to return.

We asked Amy a few fun questions about Nashville and the Holidays. We hope you enjoy getting to know her as much as we have!

 1. What Nashvillian inspires you the most? Dolly Parton, of course. Who else?

 2. What is your favorite thing to do in Nashville?  Eating lunch with my husband at Arnold’s. We get there at 10:30 to avoid the line. It’s easily my favorite meal in town.

 3.  What is your favorite holiday tradition/memory?  On Christmas morning, my grandmother always makes homemade orange rolls that will bring you to tears. And we always put banana slices in our orange juice that day.

 4. What has surprised you the most about owning/running a business in Nashville?  I didn’t realize how fond I would be of my own clients, especially women who are small business owners just like me. It’s truly a privilege to work with such a talented and kind community of makers.

 5. Last, but not least- what is your favorite holiday movie?  While You Were Sleeping - I watch it with one of my closest friends every December, sometimes earlier. “These mashed potatoes are so creamy.”

NEW SPONSOR: ART SCHOOL

Art School is the creation of teaching artist and Nashville native Allison Jarrett.  The purpose of Art School is to provide meaningful art-making opportunities to students of all ages, experiences, and abilities.

We asked Allison a few fun questions about Nashville and the Holidays. We hope you enjoy getting to know her as much as we have!

 1. What Nashvillian inspires you the most? I am super-inspired by Megan Barry, our illustrious mayor. She is constantly hustling to get things done for our city, and she has handled the pressure of being the first woman mayor (not to mention enduring unimaginable personal tragedy under the public eye) with grace and confidence and humility. She's a rockstar, and I want to be like her when I grow up.

2. What is your favorite thing to do in Nashville? My favorite "You're So Nashville If..." thing to do is taking out-of-town visitors to Tootsie's, but only on weekdays, and only before noon. I think that's when the Orchid Lounge really shines, mainly because the bachelorettes are still asleep.

3. Favorite Holiday tradition: My favorite holiday tradition is eating at the Krystal on Christmas Eve. The family tradition dates back to one of my parents' first Christmases as a married couple. They came out of a midnight church service in Madison on Christmas Eve, and my mom was starving. They had no food at their apartment, and on the drive down Gallatin Road, they saw that the Krystal was open. They were saved by those little burgers, and hence, the not-terribly-appetizing-but-oh-so-funny tradition was born.

4. What has surprised you the most about owning a small business in Nashville? I'm constantly surprised by how genuinely happy Nashvillians and fellow local entrepreneurs are to help out, support your work, and spread the word about your business. It's been a relief to experience so much collaboration over competition, and to find so many people who actually want you to succeed.

5. Favorite holiday movie? Christmas Story! I think the dad in that movie and my dad are kindred spirits. I never get tired of watching it, even after it plays on TV for 24 hours straight (thanks, TBS).
